Setup 1-grid SNMP community on Windows 2012 R2 & 2016

WINDOWS 2012 R2

Install the SNMP service role

Open Powershell in Windows and run the following command:

1. Add-WindowsFeature SNMP-Service,RSAT-SNMP

Open CMD and run the following commands to configure the SNMP service:

2. netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=SNMP dir=in protocol=udp localport=161 remoteip=41.185.120.20 action=allow profile=any enable=yes

3. cmd /c reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\SNMP\Parameters\PermittedManagers /v 1 /t REG_SZ /d 41.185.120.20 /f

4. cmd /c reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\SNMP\Parameters\ValidCommunities /v ghspublic /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f

5. cmd /c reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP\Parameters /v EnableAuthenticationTraps /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

6. cmd /c net stop snmp && net start snmp

The Windows SNMP service will now be installed and the 1-grid communities should have been set up correctly.

 

WINDOWS 2016

Install the SNMP service role

Open Powershell in Windows and run the following command:

1. Add-WindowsFeature SNMP-Service,RSAT-SNMP

Open CMD and run the following commands to configure the SNMP service:

2. cmd /c netshadvfirewall firewall add rule name=”GH SNMP Monitoring (UDP-In)” dir=in action=allow protocol=UDP localport=161 profile=Public remoteip=41.185.120.20

3. cmd /c reg add “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\SNMP\Parameters\PermittedManagers” /v 1 /t REG_SZ /d 41.185.120.20 /f

4. cmd /c reg add “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\SNMP\Parameters\ValidCommunities” /v ghspublic /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f

5. cmd /c reg add “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP\Parameters” /v EnableAuthenticationTraps /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

6. cmd /c net stop snmp && net start snmp

The community and allowed host configuration should be configured successfully:
