In light of their recently released software update, Apple has announced that there is a flaw that users need to be aware of. Apple wrote on Wednesday that the update could possibly leave Apple users exposed to attackers that aim to take over their devices.

In a recent article by Business Insider, they stated that the company is “aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited”. But what does this possible security breach mean for apple users?

According to the company, the security issue could allow a hacker to perform actions on a device with unrestricted privileges if it is accessed through “maliciously created web content.” On Wednesday, Apple noted the issue with two security updates: one for the iPhone and iPad operating systems and one for the Monterey 12.5.1 update to the company’s Mac operating system.

Apple is investigating the issue, but in the meanwhile let’s look at some preventive measures you can take to ensure you keep your devices and data safe.

Apple update

Use a antivirus and firewall program

Long-standing recommended practices for web security include employing firewall software to manage intrusion and antivirus software. This software is used to pick up and remove viruses that can be found on your computer. Malware protection from antivirus software may also include firewalls and website blocking tools.

Safely connect to public Wi-Fi

Hackers could have the opportunity to access your device using public Wi-Fi. Make sure you are connecting to a network you are familiar with and trust when you’re accessing free public Wi-Fi. And never use public Wi-Fi to conduct banking transactions or access critical information.

Conclusion

There are small things we can do to keep our devices safe. No one wants to be the victim of cyber crimes. Next time you pick up your device, make sure you are completely safe.
