Ubiquitous instant messaging app WhatsApp went down for nearly an hour last night, July 14th and is trending on social media. The downtime prevented users from sending and receiving messages on the app. The app could still open, but users experienced a ‘connecting loop’ as The Verge describes it.

WhatsApp told The Verge in a statement:

“Earlier today, an internal update made to our WhatsApp servers caused some people to have trouble sending messages. We quickly resolved this issue for everyone, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

The messaging app is a very reliable communication medium; for personal as well as business communication. The last time WhatsApp was down was a year ago along with Facebook and Instagram.
