We rent out security guards to businesses, car dealers, private premises, shopping malls, factories and estates.
Why did you choose the security industry?
I have 12 years prior experience in the industry and spent 23 years as a detective in the South African Police Service. I love what I do, and I’m good at it.
What were some of the obstacles you encountered when starting your business?
Except for PSIRA (Private Security Regulating Authority) compliance, no, I had a vision and was determined to see it through. PSIRA has a lot of conditions to be met before you can start a security company. I went through the whole process and made sure I comply. When I want something, I go for it and get it — end of story.
When did you decide to take your business online?
It happened when I decided to get a website for my company. I realized that we could reach many more people online, and I joined Webafrica, which later became 1-Grid.
How did you hear about 1-grid?
I inherited 1-grid when Webafrica split.
In the years that you’ve been with us, what is your impression of 1-grid?
1-grid continues to surprise me with new practical ideas for my website.
Would you recommend 1-grid to your friends and family?
Yes, I would I am promoting you guys as we speak, to everyone I do business with.
Is there anything you feel we could improve?
Honestly, I don’t think I will be of much help in this regard because my technological skills are not that good. 1-grid are the professionals; they already performed beyond expectations.
Lastly, what advice do you have for entrepreneurs who want to start to a business?
Planning is essential, make a list of possible obstacles, but don’t get discouraged by impossibilities. Information is powerful, and an online presence is more powerful. Connecting with the right people and sharing ideas and information will put you on the path to success.
