Telkom CEO, Sipho Maseko, announced a partnership between the telecommunications giant and the national broadcaster SABC. The partnership will see the SABC moving towards offering an on-demand streaming service of their top shows, plus sports content.
This historic partnership aims to make South African content more accessible, viewers will get their favourite content on-demand and on-the-go from their mobile phones. South African internet usage is mobile-driven, and bringing local content to people’s fingertips is a step in the right direction for the SABC.
The SABC will provide content to Telkom on a non-exclusive basis and will get a carriage license fee as well as a portion of the advertising revenue generated from the platform. The national broadcaster is making the necessary moves to not only bring in more revenue but to also gain new viewers.
