Email applications for the SASSA R350 unemployment grant are now open. Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu announced that applications are officially open today, the 11th of May. 

How to apply for the SASSA unemployment relief fund: 

You can use the official COVID-19 WhatsApp number (060-012-3456), or you can email [email protected] for an electronic application form. 

Alternatively, there will be SASSA field workers deployed to make manual applications. There will be no applications accepted at SASSA offices.

Who is eligible for the unemployment relief fund?

Unemployed people who are not receiving any form of a social grant are eligible. People who are receiving other forms of government assistance, including from UIF and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), do not qualify. 

You will need the following to apply:

  • SA ID number with name and surname as captured in ID
  • Gender and disability 
  • Banking details
  • Contact details
  • Proof of residence

Applicants should not share their banking details to avoid scams. SASSA will only request banking details once the application is successful. SASSA also warned applicants not to give their PIN and CVV number to anyone. 

How will payments be made? 

Payments will be made to approved bank accounts or via money transfer to those without bank accounts.  

Also, payments will only be paid out from the date of approval – no back payments will be made.
